Anna Tur
From Ibiza to the global stage
Known for her deep connection to Ibiza’s vibrant music scene and her impressive international presence, Tur’s 2024 has been a year of remarkable milestones. From sharing the stage with legends like Carl Cox to launching her label, LOWLITA Records, Tur’s journey is a testament to her passion and resilience.
PERFORMING WITH LEGENDS: THE CARL COX EFFECT
One of the most exciting aspects of Anna Tur’s 2024 tour has been her performances alongside Carl Cox at major festivals such as Panorama, Kappa Futur, and ULTRA Australia. For Tur, this is more than just an opportunity; it’s a dream come true.
“Carl Cox is my ultimate reference,” she says.
“His respect in the industry is unparalleled, and sharing the stage with him brings a huge responsibility"
Preparing for these performances requires meticulous attention to detail. Tur spends hours listening to music, carefully selecting tracks that fit her sound while ensuring they align with the high standards expected when performing alongside a legend like Cox.
“There’s always a bit of nervous excitement,” Tur admits.
“I strive to deliver a quality, coherent, and professional session, not just with Carl but in each of my performances.”
The influence of sharing a stage with Cox extends beyond technical preparation. Tur acknowledges that having such a revered figure in the industry as a peer not only inspires but also adds a layer of emotional intensity to her performances.
“It’s a true honor, and I always have butterflies in my stomach when I share an event with him,” she adds.
From Brunch Electronik in Barcelona to Medusa Festival in Valencia, each festival presents its unique energy and challenges. Tur’s approach to preparing for these diverse events involves several factors.
“First, I consider the tendency of the venue and its musical environment,” she explains.
“I aim to stay true to my sound while adapting to the specific atmosphere of the event.” T
he scheduling of her set is another critical element. Tur emphasizes the importance of crafting a set that maintains a sense of harmony from start to finish, taking into account the time slot and the overall flow of the event. Additionally, the characteristics of the venue—whether open-air or enclosed, sandy or paved— play a significant role in her preparation.
“Understanding the venue helps me tailor my performance to fit the environment.”
The lineup of artists performing before and after Tur is also a key consideration. By studying her fellow performers, she ensures that her set complements and transitions smoothly into the overall event experience.
“It’s about creating a cohesive experience for the audience,” Tur says.
THE PYRAMID AMNESIA RESIDENCY
Anna Tur’s involvement with Pyramid Amnesia and its world tour marks another significant chapter in her career. Although not a full-time resident, her role with the Pyramid brand and their events at Amnesia Ibiza has been pivotal.
“I love the values of the brand and the concept of the party. The team behind it and the venue, Amnesia Ibiza, make it a special experience.”
Touring with Pyramid has also given Tur the chance to connect with her fellow DJs on a personal level.
“Traveling together, we get to share laughs and good times, which makes the experience even more enjoyable,” she reflects.
This camaraderie is a highlight for Tur, as it adds a personal touch to her professional journey.
When asked about the most memorable performance of 2024, Tur highlights a few standout moments. One of the most significant was her set at the Ultra Music Festival in Melbourne, where Carl Cox joined her on stage.
“It was a truly unforgettable moment,” Anna recalls.
“Carl was on stage with me, and at one point, he took the mic and introduced me to his Australian audience. We danced and jumped around with big smiles on our faces.”
Another memorable performance took place at Brunch in Barcelona, where Tur played between Frankie Wah and Carl Cox.
“The energy from the audience was incredibly strong and special,” she says. “I felt very good, and the experience remains close to my heart.”
THE IBIZA SEASON: A LOCAL’S PERSPECTIVE
As a native of Ibiza, Anna Tur has a deep connection to the island’s music scene. Reflecting on the Ibiza season of 2024, she notes both the successes and challenges.
“We’ve had many successful seasons with sold-out events all over the island. However, this year, there’s a significant housing problem for seasonal workers and those looking for long-term rentals. It’s becoming a serious social issue.”
Tur highlights the disparity between the island’s luxury image and the reality faced by many workers.
“We have settlements of caravans and ‘shacks’ in various areas of the island. It’s an issue that needs to be addressed urgently for the sake of dignity and security"
Despite these challenges, Tur remains optimistic about Ibiza’s role in the global electronic music scene. She mentions the opening of the new club UNVRS, which is expected to bring fresh energy to the island.
“Ibiza is a place with a lot to offer,” she says. “I hope this new development doesn’t overshadow the classic clubs that have always been part of our essence."
Performing in Ibiza holds a special significance for Anna Tur.
“There’s a saying, ‘like at home, nowhere better,’ and it rings true for me,” she says. Local fans often view her performances as special events, making them feel like a celebration.
“I love that my friends and local fans plan their visits around my gigs,” Tur adds. “It’s incredibly satisfying to perform in my hometown and see both local and international fans enjoying the show.”
2024 has been a landmark year for Anna Tur’s music, with releases on influential labels such as Drumcode, Truesoul, and Armada.
Having started her production journey during the pandemic, Tur credits her growth to the time she had to focus on learning and creating.
“I must mention that I entered the world of production later, during the pandemic. If I have been working as a professional DJ for 15 years, I have only been producing for 5 years. It has been the time when I have had the necessary time to produce and have the creative and receptive mind and soul to learn. All my years in radio have not allowed me to have all that time and it is only 5 years ago that I finished with the general direction of a radio station, when I have been able to enter production. I have the best teacher I can have and also, with whom I connect musically perfectly, and it is thanks to him, that I can feel satisfied when I finish a job. I take this opportunity, Hosse, to thank you here too”.
Tur’s approach to production is both natural and deliberate. She produces music that evolves with her style while consciously aligning it with the identity of each label.
LAUNCHING LOWLITA RECORDS
The launch of LOWLITA Records during the pandemic is another significant achievement for Tur. Balancing the label with her touring and production schedule can be challenging, but she is committed to its growth.
“LOWLITA was a project born out of our desire to work together,” she says. “Despite the challenges of a new label and a small team, I aim to position it where it deserves to be in 2025.”
Anna Tur’s 2024 has been a defining year, showcasing her extraordinary talent and dedication to the electronic music scene. From sharing stages with legends like Carl Cox to navigating the complexities of Ibiza’s evolving landscape, Tur exemplifies a blend of passion and professionalism.
Her commitment to crafting memorable performances, coupled with her successful releases on top-tier labels and the launch of her label, LOWLITA Records, highlights her role as a pioneering force in the industry. As she continues to innovate and inspire, Tur’s influence on the global electronic music community is set to expand, reaffirming her status as a leading figure in the world of dance music.
