Carl Craig releases soundtrack to accompany new documentary

Detroit electronic music titan Carl Craig has released the official soundtrack for the documentary Desire: The Carl Craig Story. Issued through his own Planet E Communications, the digital version of the 17-track album is available now, with vinyl and CD set for release on July 18, 2025.

The soundtrack features a range of material spanning Craig’s career, including selections from his various monikers such as 69, Psyche/BFC, Innerzone Orchestra and Designer Music. It includes both well-known tracks and music previously unavailable on digital platforms, such as 'The Truth' (Designer Music, 2000) and 'No More Words' (1991).

The release is anchored by Craig’s remix of Slam’s 'Azure,' and also includes contributions from artists affiliated with Planet E, such as Mirko Loko, Recloose, Urban Tribe and Moritz von Oswald.

The soundtrack complements the documentary Desire: The Carl Craig Story, directed by Jean-Cosme Delaloye and produced by Sovereign Films. The film documents Craig’s journey from Detroit’s middle-class neighbourhoods to international prominence, placing his story within the broader context of Detroit’s economic shifts and artistic landscape.

Desire premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival and includes interviews with key figures in global electronic music, including Gilles Peterson, DJ Minx, Laurent Garnier, Roni Size, Kenny Larkin, Moritz von Oswald and James Lavelle.
