DJ Hydra Emerges as an Afro House Breakout in 2025

2025 marked a turning point for DJ Hydra. In a year where his name began resonating loudly on the global stage, the producer and DJ earned the respect of key figures in the genre, released music on influential labels, climbed digital charts, and even secured a Hong Kong residency that confirms his international rise.

Drawing inspiration from icons like Keinemusik and Black Coffee, Hydra has spent years perfecting a sound that blends African roots with contemporary electronic textures. The year kicked off with his debut EP Moyo Wa Upendo on UK label OVAVA Music, paired with the B-side Like House—both quickly supported by DJs worldwide.

Riding that momentum, he launched his own label, Suru Records, debuting with Bamidele, a track that soared to the Traxsource Afro House Top 5 and cracked the overall Top 10. His follow-up single, 5am in Soho, further cemented his melodic and emotional side within the genre.

Eastern cultural richness—and Quantize Recordings, DJ Spen’s powerhouse imprint boasting over 500 releases and a Billboard Dance Club Songs No. 1.

Throughout the summer, his tracks gained support from artists such as Themba, Paco Osuna, Arthur Baker, Ruben Mandolini, Maxi Meraki, and Leandro Silva, echoing across festivals like Defected Croatia, sets at Burning Man, and airwaves on London’s Select Radio. To cap it off, DJ Hydra inaugurated his residency at The Trilogy (Hong Kong), establishing a permanent hub for his dancefloor vision.
