GiGi FM returns to jungle with Shelter Our Time, a deeply personal journey through liquid sound and inner worlds
GiGi FM returns to her roots with a new release that feels both intimate and expansive, a fluid journey through memory, emotion and sound. Her latest EP Shelter Our Time lands via her own Sea rène imprint, marking a full circle moment as she reconnects with jungle, the genre that first shaped her musical language.
Known for moving between disciplines as a DJ, producer, dancer and poet, GiGi FM leans into a more vulnerable space here. Following her 2025 techno EP Virgo Space Acid, this five track project shifts inward, exploring pop infused liquid drum and bass with her own voice placed firmly at the centre. For the first time, her lyrics and singing act as the emotional thread, weaving through rhythm and movement with a quiet intensity.
Written during a period of enforced stillness, Shelter Our Time feels like an act of escape without ever losing touch with reality. It drifts through imagined landscapes of warm sunsets, liquid horizons and submerged dream worlds, offering a sense of motion in a time when movement itself felt restricted. These sonic environments become spaces where the mind can wander freely, even when the body cannot.
At its core, the EP is about processing. Music becomes a conduit, turning lived experience into rhythm and memory into melody. For GiGi FM, this is not a departure but a deepening of her practice. As she explains, it is about learning to hold joy and pain in the same body and choosing to keep dancing anyway.
Opening track Neptune sets the tone with lush 90s leaning pads and emotive liquid breaks, easing listeners into an underwater world that feels nostalgic yet forward facing. Here And Now brings things closer to the physical, its skippy breaks and grounding sub carrying mantra-like vocals that speak to resilience and inner heat. There is a softness here, but also strength, a balance that runs throughout the record.
The title track Shelter Our Time captures a suspended moment between people, somewhere between dancefloor and daydream. Drawing on classic liquid jungle textures, it wraps glowing pads and rolling percussion around a feeling of shared presence, where time stretches and softens.
On I Run, that sense of movement becomes released. GiGi’s voice evolves from something tender into something expansive, lifting the track into a space of emotional clarity. A voice note woven into the track anchors the euphoria, reminding us of cycles, of return, of continuity.
Closing track Pacific pushes the tempo slightly higher, its breaks gliding beneath delicate, almost gamelan like melodies. It feels like forward motion, like cutting through open water toward something unknown yet inviting, a horizon that never quite settles.
Across Shelter Our Time, GiGi FM resists easy escapism. Instead, she sits בתוך the full spectrum of feeling, allowing beauty and hardship to coexist. It is a record about healing, about trust, about staying open even when things feel uncertain.
With this release, Sea rène continues to evolve as a platform unbound by genre, guided instead by emotion and intention. Jungle and liquid drum and bass become vessels here, carrying poetry, vulnerability and movement in equal measure. The direction is clear, even as the tide shifts, to follow feelings wherever it leads.
