Inside Indo Warehouse: The Collective Fusing South Asian Beats with Global Dance Music

Indo Warehouse is a fresh fusion of sounds and cultures that first emerged in 2022, and soon became rooted in the New York scene but with a mission to integrate South Asian heritage into electronic music. The collective is proud to have created a new sub-genre they call ‘Indo House’. Their journey began as a response to the oversight of South Asian culture in the global dance music scene and has now taken them global.

“Both of us have a deep appreciation for the incredible diversity of music within our culture," KAHANI, the founder of Indo Warehouse, says. "However, over the years - especially with the rise of global sounds in dance music - it felt like our culture was being overlooked, ignored or incorrectly labeled. We wanted to fix that, while being able to create something that represented us."

Returning to Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) last week, Indo Warehouse performed at Melkweg on October 20, 2024. Their inaugural ADE experience was inspiring for all and was marked by unforgettable connections and an outstanding set of DJ performances. Last year set the bar pretty high and this year will be the same.

"We brought our friend and artist, Harji, and invited Anish Kumar as our special guest. This year we decided to keep the format, so we’re brought two stars from our label, Anvaya, and our special guest Anyasa, who is came from India.

Visuals play a vital role in enhancing the Indo Warehouse party vibes. While some shows feature elaborate designs, the focus remains on minimalism and impactful lighting to create dramatic atmospheres. “We love lighting and continue to rely on that to add drama to our shows”.

Recently, Indo Warehouse completed a debut tour across Africa, a region significant to their mission. “Africa is home to millions of South Asians, and this was a trip we had to make,” they say. "African influences have been a key part of our journey. It was special for us to be able to play more afro house and afro house-inspired music during this tour, but we didn’t dramatically change our sound for these shows. One of the highlights was getting to meet so many of our Afro house heroes during our show in JoBurg. Additionally, we were blessed to have Zakes Bantwini and Karyendasoul perform with us!".

Looking ahead, Indo Warehouse is poised for ever more growth both as a party brand and label. “We’re excited to bring a new show to the world in 2025,” they say. "The music that we’re about to release, the artists we are collaborating with, and the shows we are playing just get better and better. We’re excited to continue to champion Indo House and bring it to the world."
