Josh Wink celebrates three decades of Ovum with cinematic 2-track EP The Deepness

Following the single release of last month’s title track, Josh Wink officially kicks off three decades at the top of the game with cinematic 2-track EP, ‘The Deepness’. Out via Ovum Recordings on the 14th of June.

‘The Deepness EP’ marks a significant moment in Wink’s musical journey, as he forges towards a new chapter in his hugely influential career, while taking a moment to reflect on the Ovum legacy and its achievements in the electronic space.

Across three decades, the label has led the charge of electronic artists breaking through on an international level, in a relentless pursuit of inquisitive, innovative underground dance music, and this latest release does not disappoint.

A breathtaking soundscape that salutes the best of Josh, on ‘The Deepness’, Wink’s attention to detail and passion for electronic music is evident. It's easy to understand why both tracks have already received rapturous applause from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Sama Abdulhadi, DJ Bone, Hunee, Moxie, Axel Boman, Honey Dijon, Saoirse, Yu Su, amongst others.

Title track, ‘The Deepness’, is as stunningly wide-ranging as it is driving, deep and cinematic. Over its seven minute course, percussive rhythms give way to a space odyssey-worthy breakdown before we are sirened back into the rave for the final third. An enthralling ride that sees this seminal producer exploring sonic sensuality and an organic style, embracing ‘new areas of musical expression and creativity’.

Closing out the EP, ‘IZ’ is both expansive and brooding - a behemoth slice of driving house and squelchy acid. An essential addition to record bags and playlists alike, ‘IZ’ perfectly encapsulates peak-time club energy and demonstrates why Josh Wink remains such a key figure in the global underground.

Josh Wink has been gloriously disrupting electronic dance music with a DIY and post-punk energy since the 90s. Amongst a huge arsenal of profound releases - his seminal breakout hit 'Higher State of Consciousness', highlighted as one of Rolling Stone’s ‘Greatest Dance Songs Of All Time’ in 2022. In 1995 the single was unleashed on the world and was immediately embraced by everyone from Gilles Peterson to Carl Cox. The definitive track continues to be rediscovered and adored by every new wave of DJ, raver and electronic enthusiast since its original release 29 years ago. His Ovum imprint is a continuation of this boundary-pushing attitude, with more than 400 releases, over 130 associated artists and countless chart-topping tracks in its 30 years. Born in Josh’s native Philly in 1994, Ovum is as DIY and independently minded now as it ever was, with label and founder having plenty up their sleeve to surprise and delight in 2024 and well and beyond.
