Manu Miran makes his debut as a producer with 'bang u' ep on muy muy limited
The Venezuelan-born, Brooklyn-based DJ and queer underground fixture emerges from the studio for the first time, delivering a hypnotic slow-burner accompanied by remixes from Kodemul and Perfect Lovers
Venezuelan-born, Brooklyn-based DJ and producer Manu Miran makes his debut as a recording artist with 'Bang U,' out today as the 17th release on LA-CDMX, cross-border imprint Muy Muy Limited. The EP marks a significant first for Miran, who has spent years building himself as a fixture of New York's queer underground as a DJ, curator, and disability advocate before ever putting out music of his own. 'Bang U' is that first statement, and it sounds like someone who knew exactly what they wanted to say.
The title track is a hypnotic, slow-burning piece built around rolling percussion, layered drum grooves, and subtle low-end pressure. It unfolds with patient restraint before releasing a bright, progressive chord pattern that lifts the track to ecstatic peaks. Beneath its stripped back framework sits an unexpected emotional depth. It works equally well on a late-night dancefloor and in an open-air moment of collective release. As a debut production, 'Bang U' does something harder than making noise, earning your attention confidently.
The EP arrives with two remixes. Mexico City producer Kodemul delivers a driving, propulsive, forward-thinking take rooted in industrial and Latin-inflected club music. Label head Perfect Lovers takes a more understated path, channeling smoky after-hours energy with a melodic remix that sounds like the sun starting to come through the window.
Miran's path to this moment is a direct line from his work as a community builder. He founded Visceral, a Cambridge, MA-based interdisciplinary techno platform dedicated to radical inclusivity for POC, LGBTQ+, and disabled people. Since relocating to New York City in 2021, he has become a regular presence at Basement, Por Detroit, Battle Hymn, and The Spectrum, and has appeared at Nowadays, Refuge, Signal, Public Records, and Paragon. He has had peaktime slots at queer techno festivals including Honcho Campout, Somos, and Ladyland, and has toured London, Berlin, Paris, Marseille, Amsterdam, Bangkok, Hanoi, Buenos Aires, Lima, and Mexico City.
None of that work came with a record. Miran has always moved through these spaces as a DJ and an organizer, someone who showed up for the culture before asking anything back. 'Bang U' is the moment he steps to the other side of it.
The release lands on Muy Muy Limited – run by Perfect Lovers and LA nightlife staple Victor Rodriguez, the imprint is built specifically for this kind of artist. The label focuses on Latin American producers making some of today's most interesting music, people who often get bypassed by Euro-centric and American scenes. Organizers run beloved, community centric events in Mexico City, LA, and Montreal centered on the underground, trans people, femmes, weirdos, freaks, and allies. It is exactly the right home for Miran's debut.
