NOT A HEADLINER Unveils new and stark techno statement with latest EP

Spanish innovator NOT A HEADLINER returns on June 26 with 'FAKE TRICKS,' a new record that explores themes of control, resistance and structure through a minimalist and industrial techno lens.
Says the artist of this latest drop, which comes after their previous release 'Something Hard to Find,' "FAKE TRICKS is not about deception—it’s about imposed logic. There's no persuasion, no subtlety, just orders given without justification. Each track is a different phase of control, resistance, and collapse. It’s a record built for the club, where repetition is not just rhythm, but a statement."
Eschewing narrative or metaphor, FAKE TRICKS focuses on repetition, mechanical rhythm and stripped-down vocals. The opener and title cut sets the tone with a dry, processed vocal loop and distorted percussion. 'We Rise' then offers a sense of resistance rather than triumph with a three-note motif looping endlessly over raw drums and 'Buenas Maneras' brings volatility with unpredictable rhythms and a sense of controlled chaos. Closer 'We Will Show You The Way' offers neither clarity nor redemption and looks to mirror the ambiguity of imposed systems of power.
The project is complemented by an animated short film created in collaboration with visual artist Rob Collado, which has been designed to amplify the EP’s themes with a distinct visual language.
This EP is a stark and uncompromising approach to techno, just as real techno should be.
