Unheard Music unveils its second release, ‘Your Retreat’, from Malandra Jr. & pizzaaftersex
Unheard Music continues to define its identity with the release of Your Retreat, the label’s second outing and a collaborative effort between Italian producer Malandra Jr. and Unheard co-founder pizzaaftersex. The release reinforces the label’s commitment to artistic freedom, positioning itself firmly outside trend-driven club formulas and algorithm-friendly structures.
Built around a rolling house groove and buoyant melodic lines, Your Retreat is designed for connection rather than spectacle. It carries an easy, forward-moving energy that translates equally well to intimate club settings and open-air environments. The package is expanded through two remixes that widen the track’s scope without diluting its character. Musumeci delivers a version rooted in his Italo-leaning indie dance sensibility, while Kirik strips things back to raw drive and club-focused pressure, offering DJs contrasting but complementary interpretations.
Beyond the music itself, Your Retreat reflects the ethos behind Unheard Music. Founded last year by Far&High, pizzaaftersex, and Mona Chrome, the label was created as a response to a scene increasingly shaped by safe formulas and surface-level metrics. Unheard positions itself as a platform for experimentation, encouraging artists to work instinctively and present music that feels honest, unpolished, and personal.
“For me, this is a very special piece of work,” pizzaaftersex explains. “The release turned out to be dual. There is the strong mood Malandra brought into the track, the amazing remixes by Musumeci and Kirik, and my original vision, which dissolved into the interpretations of other artists. Living through this process, accepting it, and falling in love with what it became was incredibly positive. I hope people will feel all the shades of this release on Unheard Music.”
A new name within club culture, pizzaaftersex arrives with a background in production and sound design rooted in cinematic music. After working on soundtracks, including a major international gaming project, he now shifts focus toward dance music, approaching it from both the DJ booth and the studio.
Malandra Jr. brings a long-established musical foundation to the collaboration. Raised in a household immersed in music and art, he began composing on early computers before studying classical piano and clarinet at the Teatro alla Scala Academy. His early electronic work, including releases on Cocoon Recordings, opened the door to a global career spanning labels such as Dfloor, Stil Vor Talent, and R&S, alongside performances at venues and festivals worldwide.
“This project was born between Italy and Dubai,” Malandra Jr. says. “It came from mutual respect and a fresh melody that immediately felt light and enjoyable. I first imagined something indie, but house music naturally took over. I hear summer in it. Good vibes, a driving loop, and drops full of groove. There’s no overthinking here. It’s about holding a glass in your hand and enjoying life.”
Looking ahead, Unheard Music plans to extend its vision beyond recorded releases, with events, podcasts, video formats, and off-site sessions in unique locations. The aim is to frame music as culture rather than content, and sound as a shared experience rather than data.
