Fritz Kalkbrenner

Undoubtedly, Fritz Kalkbrenner's voice stands among the most recognizable in the global electronic music movement. Since the release of "Sky & Sand" – a collaboration with his brother Paul – Fritz Kalkbrenner has left an indelible mark, creating an anthem that resonate across generations.

Following the international success of this iconic single, Fritz went on to produce solo singles and albums that consistently achieved Top Ten rankings and Gold status, all stamped with his unmistakable sound signature.

Fritz Kalkbrenner's productions subtly intertwine a distinct love for house and hip-hop tunes, along with danceable melancholy and a profound connection to the club scene. Last year, Fritz Kalkbrenner not only released compelling new tracks but also embarked on a sold-out tour, gracing renowned venues in and around Germany. As we look ahead to 2024, Fritz Kalkbrenner has exciting plans in store – details of which will be revealed in this interview.

Congratulations on successfully concluding your recent 'Waiting For The Sun' tour! Can you reflect on the overall experience, and were there any standout moments from the journey?

Absolutely, it was an incredible journey. The response was phenomenal – we had Packer venues, with two-thirds of our shows completely sold out. The tour was a series of unforgettable moments.

Particularly, the Berlin show stood out as a remarkable highlight. The energy there was electric, almost like a grand homecoming. But it wasn't just Berlin; cities like Brussels and Hamburg also left an indelible mark. The warm reception we received across the board was truly humbling. I'm already looking forward to what the next tour holds, given the fantastic response to this one.

Your latest singles have gained significant global attention. What inspired the creation of a track like 'Set You Free' and the overall themes behind your recent releases?

"Set You Free," my latest release, holds a special place in my heart. It's an ode to classic house music. One key element in this track is the high frequencies, intentionally filtered to give a nod to the sound quality of vintage recordings. This decision was a homage to the era that significantly influenced my musical journey.

The single is a tribute to the icons who shaped my early musical years, around the age of 20 or 21 – artists like Roy Davis Jr, Kenny Dixon, Moodymann, and Theo Parrish. This track is my way of honoring the legacy of those who inspired me.

The visuals of your recent tour were truly captivating. How do you prioritize the visual aspect to enhance the overall music experience for your audience?

Visuals play a crucial role - but always in support of the music. Over the years, we've transitioned from simple setups to a more elaborate visual concept. This evolution involves creating tailored visual and video content that complements the music, ensuring a harmonious experience for our audience.

Following the tour, you're gearing up for club gigs in wellknown selected venues and the upcoming festival season. What event setting do you find most comfortable or personally resonant?

It's a dynamic preference, just like the ebb and flow of sound waves. After an extensive festival season, I crave the closeness of club gigs. Conversely, at the start of the festival season, there's nothing quite like the thrill of performing at large venues. It's about embracing the diversity of these experiences.

Can you elaborate on how the process of writing lyrics and producing music becomes a form of personal liberation for you?

It's less about liberation and more about a deep-seated need to create. The decision to include vocals or keep a track instrumental is made early in the creative process. For me, music is my way to expressing and channeling a wealth of emotions and memories. It's a deeply personal process of turning inner experiences into audible expressions.

As we step into 2024, what's on the horizon for Fritz Kalkbrenner? Can you give us a sneak peek into any upcoming projects or exciting collaborations you have in store for your fans?

Looking ahead to 2024, there's a lot in the works. While I can't share too many specifics right now, I have a substantial amount of music in the final stages of mixing and mastering, ready for release. There are big plans on the horizon, but due to confidentiality, I have to keep the details under wraps for now. What I can promise is excitement and new experiences – so stay tuned!
